Ingredients
I love these 20 Minute Peanut Gochujang Noodles not only because they’re delicious, but also because the ingredients list is short – many of which are pantry staples that I always have on hand! Here’s what you’ll need to make them, plus possible substitutions:
- Noodles: I’m using knife cut noodles, which I typically find any my local asian market, but also on Amazon.
- Peanut Butter: adds a rich and creamy texture to the sauce.
- Gochujang: gochujang is a spicy, fermented chili paste commonly used in Korean cuisine. It adds a delicious kick to the sauce that can be adjusted to your desired level of spiciness.
- Fresh Garlic
- Low-Sodium Soy Sauce: adds a savory umami flavor to the sauce, while also providing a salty component.
- Toasted Sesame Oil: adds a nutty and smoky flavor to the sauce that complements the peanut butter and gochujang.
- Coconut Sugar: adds a subtle sweetness to the sauce that helps to balance out the spiciness of the gochujang.
- Gochugaru: gochugaru is a type of Korean chili flakes that adds a medium-level of spiciness to the sauce. It can be adjusted to your desired level of spiciness. It’s often sold in Korean or Asian grocery stores, but you can also find it online. This is my favorite brand!
- Garnishes: green onions add a fresh and crunchy texture to this dish, while the toasted sesame seeds compliment the nuttiness of the sesame oil and peanut butter.
Substitutions
- Noodles: this recipe is incredibly versatile and can be made with any type of noodle you have on hand, whether it be spaghetti, ramen, or even soba noodles.
- Peanut Butter: if you have a peanut allergy, you can substitute almond butter or sunflower seed butter for the peanut butter.
- Gochujang: You can often find it at your local Asian market or the Asian section of your local grocery store. If you can’t find it there, you can order it online. Additionally, if you can’t find gochujang, you can substitute sriracha or another spicy chili paste.
- Low-Sodium Soy Sauce: if you are gluten-free, you can use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
- Coconut Sugar: sub equal portions brown sugar or maple syrup instead.
